My name is
Wayne, and I live in
Connecticut. Though I’ve always
been heavy, about two years ago
I hit my ultimate high weight of
600+ pounds. Unable to weigh
myself on a traditional scale, I
had to visit a steel plant and
use their scales, an
unimaginably embarrassing
scenario. My health was
continuously deteriorating, and
I really didn’t know what to do.
I’d tried dieting many times, to
no avail, always gaining the
weight back, and then some.
On February 13, 2007, as I went
for a walk around the block, I
became dizzy, first leaning to
one side, and then falling to
the ground. Nobody was around to
help me, but I somehow managed
to get back to my house. I was
very, very scared, wondering
what was happening to me. I fell
again, many times, inside my
house, before I was able to get
a hold of my brother, who
immediately rushed over and took
me to the hospital.
I was having a stroke.
The doctors explained that I
would never fully recover, news
I had a very hard time
accepting. I was then sent to
Gaylord Hospital for
rehabilitation as an inpatient.
One day after being released
from Gaylord, I was again
walking around the block. The
visiting nurse who’d been
assigned to my case saw me
walking, pulled her car over,
and asked what I was doing.
I explained to her that I needed
to lose weight, and asked if she
had any suggestions. She told me
about a man she knew of who had
a reputation for dealing with
weight loss in a spiritual way.
I didn’t hesitate to make the
call that wound up saving my
life.
When I called, I told said to
the man, “I hope and pray to God
that you can help me.” The man’s
response was, “You invoked God’s
name, so I know I can help you.”
That was the beginning of a
phenomenal relationship, not
only between Charlie and me, but
between me and my Heavenly
Father. By focusing on what
matters most, belief in God and
the Holy Spirit along with many
hours of prayer, I was able to
get reach my present weight of
235 pounds. I am almost at my
desired weight, and I praise God
every day for the wonderful
journey that has led me here.
I had been in renal failure,
with an irregular heartbeat,
abdominal hernia, and edema in
my legs, not to mention the more
than 17 medications I was
taking. Today, I am down to only
two medications, my heart beats
at a regular pace now, and my
hernia is gone! The doctors are
astonished at my recovery.
With spiritual wisdom and a true
walk with the Lord, I am now
able to say that I feel
wonderful. Thank you, Charlie,
for leading me on this amazing
journey.
